As days pass, Sun-jae becomes more worried about Im Sol and their friend In-hyuk, who has gone missing. They visit In-hyuk’s house and find Tae-sung, who explains that In-hyuk has returned to his village, embarrassed after his voice cracked during a singing competition. Concerned, they decide to visit him and convince him to return. At the village, the three friends find In-hyuk walking into the sea and fear he’s suicidal. In their rush to save him, Tae-sung’s car is swept away by the waves. In-hyuk clarifies he is just sad, not suicidal, and invites them to his house for a meal with his family, who warmly welcomes them. Meanwhile, Young-soo overhears Bok-soon talking to Im Sol and decides to follow the group to the seaside.
During their visit, Im Sol and Sun-jae flirt openly, annoying In-hyuk. They spend the day playing with a mischievous lamb and enjoying the ocean. Sun-jae promises to help In-hyuk with his music career. Im Sol is happy to fulfill her promise to visit the sea with Sun-jae before she leaves. Sun-jae, afraid to sleep alone, makes ghost noises to scare Im Sol. When this fails, he joins her in her room, promising not to touch her. They draw a line of pillows between them and fall asleep.

The next morning, Tae-sung’s car is retrieved from the ocean. The friends say goodbye to In-hyuk’s family and leave. At the bus stop, Im Sol pretends not to recognize where she is, gets off the train, and starts crying as it departs. Sun-jae also cries, despite his promise not to.
In a flashback, it’s revealed that Im Sol’s memory changes were a sign that her future had changed. In her new memories, Sun-jae still tries to save her. Im Sol believes this is the only way to protect both herself and Sun-jae from Young-soo. The episode ends with Young-soo arriving in town, determined to find Im Sol.

Lovely Runner Episode 12 Review & Reflection:
Watching Episode 12 of "Lovely Runner" was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I was really happy to see Sun-jae and Im Sol so cheerful after the concert. It felt like they finally had a shot at happiness, especially with Young-soo arrested and Sun-jae getting his big audition. But when Young-soo escaped, my heart sank. The sudden shift from joy to fear was intense, and I couldn't help but feel worried for Im Sol.
Tae-sung rushing to the hospital to see his dad added another layer of tension. It was a relief to know his dad would be okay, but it showed just how dangerous the situation had become.
Im Sol’s meeting with Tae-sung’s dad to discuss their plan against Young-soo was nerve-wracking. Her hesitation about witness protection made sense; she just wants to solve everything quickly. I felt Sun-jae’s determination to protect her was both touching and heartbreaking. He’s doing everything he can, but the danger feels overwhelming.
The subplot with Hyun-joo and Im Geum’s romance was a nice break from the tension. It was funny and a bit of a relief to see something lighthearted. However, Im Sol's frustration with their relationship added a bittersweet twist. Sun-jae's suggestion that they might be meant to be was a comforting thought.
As the episode progressed, Sun-jae’s increasing worry for both Im Sol and In-hyuk was palpable. Their trip to find In-hyuk was both touching and tense. Seeing In-hyuk so down and Tae-sung’s car getting swept away was dramatic. It was a relief to learn In-hyuk wasn’t suicidal, just sad, and their meal with his family brought a brief sense of warmth and normalcy.
Im Sol losing her phone and the subsequent strange memories she experienced added another layer of mystery and concern. Sun-jae’s support during this was heartwarming, but the looming threat of Young-soo was always in the back of my mind.
Their playful flirting and eventual confession of love were sweet moments amidst the chaos. However, the morning scene at the bus stop was heartbreaking. Im Sol pretending not to recognize Sun-jae and both of them crying was incredibly sad.
The flashback revealing that her memory changes were signs of a changed future was a powerful moment. Im Sol’s belief that this was the only way to protect them both made her actions even more poignant. The episode ending with Young-soo arriving in town left me anxious for what’s next. Overall, this episode was an emotional blend of joy, fear, love, and sadness.
